Locked features and plan limits

Some SmartSize features are only available on certain plans. When a feature is not included in your current plan, SmartSize shows it as locked. This article explains why features are locked, how to recognize a locked feature, and what you can do to unlock it.

Why some features are locked

SmartSize offers different plans so stores can choose the sizing support that matches their needs and budget. Basic size chart features are available on every plan, including Free. Advanced features such as AI fit quizzes, multi-tab size charts, and priority support require a paid plan.

Locking features by plan keeps the Free plan simple and gives growing stores access to more powerful tools. You only pay for the features your store actually uses.

How locked features appear in SmartSize

When a feature is not included in your plan, SmartSize shows a clear indicator.

You may see:

  • a lock icon next to a menu item or setting
  • an Upgrade to unlock button instead of the usual control
  • a short message explaining which plan includes the feature
  • the feature shown in a preview but not available for editing

For example, if you are on the Free plan and open the fit quiz section, SmartSize shows that fit quizzes require a Pro plan. You can read about the feature, but you cannot create or publish a quiz until you upgrade.

Common locked features by plan

Here are the features most often noticed as locked:

If you try to use a locked feature, SmartSize tells you which plan unlocks it.

What happens when you upgrade

When you change to a plan that includes a previously locked feature, the feature becomes available immediately after Shopify approves the new plan.

There is no extra setup step. If you upgrade from Free to Starter, advanced design options appear in your size chart editor right away. If you upgrade to Pro, the fit quiz builder becomes available and you can start creating quizzes.

If you downgrade to a lower plan, features that are no longer included may become locked again. Content you created with those features is usually preserved, but you may not be able to edit or publish new items until you upgrade again.

You are on the Free plan and select Fit quizzes from the SmartSize navigation. SmartSize shows a preview of what fit quizzes can do, along with an Upgrade to Pro button. You can read about the feature, but you cannot create a quiz until you choose a Pro plan.

An advanced design option is grayed out

You are on the Free plan and editing a size chart. Some design settings show a lock icon. When you hover over the locked setting, SmartSize tells you that advanced design is included in Starter and above. After upgrading to Starter, the same setting becomes editable.
