Create your first size chart

Guide type: Step-by-step tutorial Difficulty: Beginner Applies to: Size charts

In this tutorial, you will create a simple SmartSize size chart, connect it to one product, save it, and check the chart preview.

This is a guided first setup. It does not cover every size chart design setting or advanced content block.

What you'll do

You will:

  1. Start a new size chart.
  2. Choose who the chart is for.
  3. Choose the garment type.
  4. Choose a visual style.
  5. Name the size chart.
  6. Review the desktop and mobile previews.
  7. Connect the size chart to one product.
  8. Save your changes.
  9. Confirm the size chart is ready to show on your storefront.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • SmartSize installed in your Shopify store
  • the Size chart extension turned on in your live theme
  • one product you want to test with
  • the size measurements you want shoppers to see

If the Size chart extension is not active yet, follow Turn on the SmartSize app extensions first.

1. Start a new size chart

In SmartSize, go to Size charts and start a new size chart.

SmartSize opens the size chart setup flow.

2. Choose who the size chart is for

On Who is this chart for?, choose the shopper group that matches the product.

For this tutorial, choose the option that fits your test product, such as Women.

4. Choose a visual style

Choose the visual style you want to use for the size chart.

For a first chart, choose a simple style that is easy to read. You can adjust the chart design later.

Click Next.

5. Name the size chart

Enter a clear name for the chart.

Use a name that helps you recognize the product, collection, or audience it belongs to. For example, use a name like Women's dress size chart instead of a generic name like Chart 1.

Create the size chart.

SmartSize opens the size chart editor.

6. Review the desktop preview

In the editor, review the desktop preview first.

Check that:

  • the chart title is clear
  • the size rows are readable
  • the measurement columns match what shoppers need
  • the chart is easy to scan on a product page

You can edit the chart content later. For this first setup, focus on creating a working chart and connecting it to a product.

7. Check the mobile preview

Use the mobile preview to see how the chart will look on smaller screens.

Make sure the table is still readable and that shoppers can understand the size information without zooming in.

8. Connect the size chart to a product

A size chart must match at least one product before shoppers can see it.

In Product display rules, choose the product that should show this size chart.

For this tutorial, select one test product.

After you select the product, SmartSize shows it in the product display rule.

For your first chart, keep the rule simple. You can add collections, product types, tags, or rule priority later if you need broader targeting.

9. Save your changes

When the chart and product rule look correct, click Save.

SmartSize confirms when the chart has been saved.

10. Set the chart to Active

New size charts start in Draft status. Shoppers cannot see a draft chart on your storefront.

At the top of the editor, open the Status dropdown and choose Active.

Click Save again. SmartSize confirms the active chart has been saved.

Check your result

Open the product page you connected to the size chart.

You should see the Size Chart button or size chart entry point near the product options, depending on your theme and button placement settings.

Click the button and check that the size chart opens correctly.

If you do not see the size chart, check that:

  • the Size chart extension is active on your live theme
  • the size chart has been saved
  • the product display rule matches the product you are viewing
  • the button placement settings work with your Shopify theme

You have created and connected your first SmartSize size chart.

Next steps

After your first size chart is working, you can:

  • create more charts for other products or collections
  • use product display rules for larger product groups
  • customize the size chart content blocks
  • adjust the Size Chart button placement and style
  • translate size chart content for other storefront languages
