SmartSize glossary¶
Guide type: Reference Difficulty: Beginner Applies to: SmartSize terminology
Quick definitions for terms you will see across the SmartSize help center and dashboard.
App block¶
A Shopify theme editor block you can drag and drop to control exactly where the SmartSize button appears on your product page. See Choose where the SmartSize button appears.
App embed¶
Another name for an app extension. In the Shopify theme editor, app embeds appear as toggleable features you can turn on or off.
App extension¶
A Shopify mechanism that adds SmartSize code to your store. SmartSize uses two app extensions: the Size chart extension and the Size quiz extension. See Turn on the SmartSize app extensions.
Block¶
A content element inside a size chart — such as text, a table, an image, a video, a recommendation explanation, a button, or a divider. See Size chart blocks reference.
Connected chart¶
A size chart that is linked to a fit quiz. When a shopper completes the quiz, the recommended size is highlighted inside the connected chart.
Connected pair¶
A size chart and fit quiz linked together. When both are published and connected, shoppers can move seamlessly from the quiz to the chart.
Connected quiz¶
A fit quiz that is linked to a size chart. The quiz uses the size chart's measurement data to generate recommendations.
Find my size button¶
The storefront button that opens the fit quiz popup. The label is editable in translations.
Fit ease¶
The extra room added to body measurements for comfort. A fitted blazer has less fit ease than an oversized hoodie. See Use Fit Lab to tune recommendations.
Fit Lab¶
Advanced settings inside a fit quiz for tuning how recommendations are calculated. You can adjust fit ease, stretch headroom, and measurement importance. See Use Fit Lab to tune recommendations.
Fit quiz¶
An interactive questionnaire that collects a shopper's measurements or preferences and recommends the best size. Shoppers open it by clicking the Find my size button. See Create a fit quiz.
Global settings¶
Store-wide SmartSize settings that control measurement units, popup styling, button labels, and mobile layout.
Match all¶
A product display rule setting that shows the chart or quiz only when every condition is true. Good for precise targeting — for example, matching only red dresses from a specific vendor. See Match any vs match all.
Match any¶
A product display rule setting that shows the chart or quiz when at least one of the conditions is true. Good for broad coverage — for example, matching several product types at once. See Match any vs match all.
Match condition¶
A single criterion in a product display rule — for example, "Product type equals Dress" or "Vendor equals Acme." You can stack multiple conditions in one rule.
Measurement importance¶
How heavily a specific measurement influences the size recommendation. High-importance measurements disqualify a size more aggressively when the shopper's measurement falls outside the range.
Popup¶
The overlay that displays size chart or fit quiz content on the storefront. You can customize the popup position, background, font, and mobile layout in SmartSize global settings.
Precision quiz¶
A type of fit quiz that asks shoppers to enter exact body measurements — such as chest, waist, and hips — using a measuring tape. You choose which measurements to collect when you set up the quiz.
Prediction quiz¶
A type of fit quiz that estimates body measurements from the shopper's height and weight. It does not require a measuring tape and is faster for shoppers to complete.
Priority¶
The order in which SmartSize evaluates product display rules. The first matching rule wins. Higher-priority rules should be specific; lower-priority rules can be catch-alls.
Product display rules¶
Rules that decide which size chart or fit quiz appears on which product pages. You set conditions based on product type, vendor, tags, or collections. See Set up product display rules.
Publish¶
Make a size chart or fit quiz visible on your storefront. Unpublished charts and quizzes are only visible in the SmartSize dashboard.
Recommendation¶
The size SmartSize suggests to a shopper after they complete a fit quiz or view a connected size chart. Recommendations are based on the size table ranges you enter.
Recommendation memory¶
When a shopper returns to your store, SmartSize can remember their previous recommendation so they do not need to retake the quiz.
Section¶
A container inside a size chart that holds one or more blocks. You can add, remove, and reorder sections to organize your chart content.
Size chart¶
A popup on your product page that shows sizing information — measurement tables, fit diagrams, and brand notes. Shoppers open it by clicking the Size Chart button. See Create a size chart.
Size Chart button¶
The storefront button that opens the size chart popup. The label is editable in translations.
Size table¶
The measurement grid inside a size chart or fit quiz. Each row is a size label (for example, S, M, L) and each column is a body measurement (for example, Chest, Waist). See Measurements for fit quizzes.
Stretch headroom¶
How much a stretchy fabric can expand beyond the body measurement. A sports bra has high stretch headroom; a wool coat has none. See Use Fit Lab to tune recommendations.
