I cannot publish a chart or quiz¶
Guide type: Troubleshooting guide Difficulty: Beginner Applies to: Size charts and fit quizzes
Use this guide when the Publish button is disabled, a publish action fails, or you see an error when trying to make a size chart or fit quiz active.
Symptoms¶
You may see one of these symptoms:
- the Publish button is grayed out or does not respond
- a toast or banner says the publish failed
- an error message mentions plan limits or quotas
- the chart or quiz reverts to Draft after you try to publish
Quick checks¶
1. Check your plan limits¶
SmartSize plans limit how many charts and quizzes can be published at the same time.
Open the chart or quiz and look for a message about published limits near the status control. If your plan is at the limit, you must unpublish an existing chart or quiz before publishing a new one.
2. Check for missing required fields¶
A chart or quiz cannot be published if required information is missing.
For a size chart, confirm that: - the chart has a name - the size table has at least one row and one column - at least one product display rule is set
For a fit quiz, confirm that: - the quiz has a name - the size table is complete - at least one product display rule is set
3. Check for validation errors¶
If any field has a red border or warning icon, fix the error before publishing.
Common validation issues include: - empty measurement cells in the size table - a product display rule with no conditions - a missing quiz question or answer
4. Save before publishing¶
Some editors require you to save changes before the publish button becomes active.
Click Save and wait for the confirmation. Then try to publish again.
Causes and fixes¶
Cause: plan limit reached¶
What happens: Your current SmartSize plan allows a fixed number of published charts and quizzes. You have reached that number.
Fix: Unpublish an older chart or quiz you no longer need, then publish the new one. If you need more published items, upgrade your plan.
For plan details, see SmartSize plans and feature limits. To upgrade, see Change your SmartSize plan.
Cause: required fields are empty¶
What happens: The editor detects missing data and blocks publishing until the chart or quiz is complete.
Fix: Review every section of the editor and fill in any empty required fields. Pay special attention to the size table and product display rules.
Cause: validation error in the size table¶
What happens: A measurement is missing, a size name is blank, or the table structure is invalid.
Fix: Open the size table and check for red highlights or warning icons. Fill in missing values and ensure every size has a unique name.
Cause: the chart or quiz was not saved¶
What happens: You made changes and clicked Publish before saving.
Fix: Click Save, wait for confirmation, then click Publish.
Check the result¶
After applying a fix:
- Save the chart or quiz.
- Click Publish or set the status to Active.
- Confirm that the status changes to Active and stays active after refreshing the page.
- Open a matching product page on your storefront and confirm the SmartSize button appears.
If it still does not work¶
Contact SmartSize support and include:
- the name of the chart or quiz
- the exact error message or banner text
- your current SmartSize plan
- a screenshot of the editor showing any red borders or warnings
This helps support check whether the issue is a plan limit, validation error, or a bug in the editor.
