Product fit, stretch, and measurement priorities

Fine-tune how SmartSize recommends sizes by setting the product type, fit ease, fabric stretch, and which measurements matter most.

Before you start

  • The quiz has a completed size table. If the table is empty or incomplete, follow Fill in the quiz size table first.
  • You know the garment type and fabric behavior for the products this quiz targets.
  • You understand how the size table ranges map to body measurements.

1. Open the product fit settings

In SmartSize, go to Fit quizzes and open the quiz you want to tune. Scroll to Advanced settings and expand Product fit.

2. Pick a product type

Click Pick a product type. Choose the category that best describes the product this quiz serves. Examples include A-line dress, straight jeans, oversized sweater, or tailored shirt.

The product type sets the baseline fit logic. It tells SmartSize how the garment is intended to sit on the body, which affects how measurements are compared to the size table.

3. Set the fit ease

Fit ease controls how much extra room the garment is designed to have.

Fit ease Effect on recommendation
Tight Recommends the closest fit. Best for compression or bodycon styles.
Regular Balances comfort and shape. Suitable for most everyday apparel.
Loose Allows more room. Good for relaxed or oversized silhouettes.

Choose the value that matches how the product is designed to fit. A loose-fitting hoodie should use a different ease than a fitted blazer.

4. Set the fabric stretch

Fabric stretch tells SmartSize how forgiving the material is when a shopper is between sizes.

Stretch level Effect on recommendation
None The fabric does not give. SmartSize is strict about range boundaries.
Some Moderate give. A shopper slightly outside a range may still receive that size if other measurements fit well.
Full Highly elastic material. SmartSize can recommend a size even when one measurement is slightly beyond the range.

If the product contains elastane, spandex, or knit fabric, consider raising the stretch level. For woven cotton or denim with no stretch, keep it at None or Some.

5. Set measurement priorities

Measurement priorities tell SmartSize which body parts matter most when a shopper does not fit cleanly into one size.

For example, on an A-line dress: - Bust is often the highest priority because the upper body must fit for the garment to sit correctly. - Waist may be lower priority because an A-line cut is looser at the waist. - Hips may be lowest because the skirt flares out.

Drag the measurements into the order that matches the product design. The top measurement is the most important for sizing decisions.

6. Review the fit recommendation logic

After you set product type, fit ease, stretch, and priorities, SmartSize updates the recommendation logic notes.

Read the cards to understand: - What happens when a shopper is between sizes. - How fit ease and stretch influence the result. - Which measurements can disqualify a size entirely. - Whether the quiz is ready to recommend.

If the logic notes warn that the quiz is not ready, check that the size table is complete and that the settings make sense together.

7. Test in Fit Lab

Before saving, open the Fit Lab Simulator and test a few shopper profiles. If recommendations feel too tight or too loose, adjust fit ease or stretch and test again.

8. Save the quiz

Click Save. The product fit settings are stored with the quiz.

Check the result

Make sure the quiz is set to Active so shoppers can see it on the storefront.

The Fit Lab Simulator returns recommendations that match how the garment is designed to fit. Between-sizes shoppers receive a size that respects the priority order and fabric stretch you set.
