AI import gave wrong or incomplete size data¶
Guide type: Troubleshooting guide Difficulty: Beginner Applies to: Size charts
Use this guide when you used AI to generate a size table from an image or spreadsheet, but the imported data is incorrect, incomplete, or does not match your source.
Symptoms¶
You may see one of these symptoms:
- sizes are missing from the generated table
- measurements are in the wrong unit (inches instead of centimeters, or vice versa)
- numbers are transposed or in the wrong columns
- size names do not match your source image
- the table has extra rows or columns that should not be there
- some cells are blank even though the source had data
Quick checks¶
1. Check the source image quality¶
AI import works best with clear, high-contrast images.
Before uploading, confirm that: - the text is sharp and not blurry - the table has clear borders or grid lines - there is no glare, shadow, or background pattern over the data - the image is not rotated or skewed
If the source is a photo, retake it in good lighting with the camera parallel to the page.
2. Check the unit setting¶
SmartSize assumes a default unit during AI import. If your source uses inches but the import assumed centimeters, every value will be wrong.
After importing, open the size table and check whether the unit label next to each measurement matches your source. If not, update the unit in the table settings and correct the values.
3. Review the AI preview before saving¶
After upload, SmartSize shows a preview of the extracted table. Do not skip this step.
Compare the preview row by row with your source. If you spot errors, cancel the import and try again with a clearer image, or enter the data manually.
4. Check for merged cells or complex layouts¶
AI import struggles with tables that have: - merged cells spanning multiple rows or columns - nested headers or sub-columns - diagonal text or rotated labels - hand-drawn or decorative borders
If your source has any of these, enter the data manually instead.
Causes and fixes¶
Cause: low image quality¶
What happens: Blurry, dark, or skewed images make it hard for the AI to read characters correctly.
Fix: Use a clearer image. Crop the image to show only the table area. If the source is a spreadsheet, export it as a clean CSV and upload that instead of a screenshot.
Cause: wrong measurement unit¶
What happens: The AI extracted numbers correctly but assumed the wrong unit, so every value is off by a factor.
Fix: After importing, open the size table and change the unit setting to match your source. Then review every value to make sure the conversion is correct.
Cause: missing sizes or measurements¶
What happens: The AI missed a row or column, often because the font was small or the border was faint.
Fix: Add the missing size or measurement column manually. For a small table, it may be faster to enter all data by hand rather than re-import.
Cause: complex table layout¶
What happens: Merged headers, nested columns, or decorative styling confused the AI.
Fix: Simplify the source before importing. Flatten nested headers into a single header row. Remove decorative borders. Re-import the cleaned version.
Check the result¶
After correcting the table:
- Save the size chart.
- Open the chart preview and confirm every size and measurement matches your original source.
- Check the unit labels next to each measurement column.
- Open a matching product page on your storefront and confirm the table displays correctly.
If it still does not work¶
Contact SmartSize support and include:
- the original source image or file
- a screenshot of the AI preview
- a screenshot of the incorrect table in the editor
- which sizes or measurements are wrong
This helps support check whether the issue is image quality, table structure, or an AI extraction bug.
